Lesson on Neuroplasticity!
Today we are learning about Brain Basics. Please click on the powerpoint link. Here is the PPT link (Click once under PPT to find link and click again to get to PowerPoint) Then, click on start slideshow.
In the “olden days”, people thought that however you were born is how smart you would always be. If you were born not good at math, you’d never be good at math. And now we know that’s not true. Now we know that if you train your brain you can better at any skill. If you practice, you will improve. This is called growth mindset.
Here is a fancy word repeat it after me: Neuroplasticity. What does it mean? That your brain can grow! When you train your brain, the pathways grow. If you tell your parents or anyone at home that you know what neuroplasticity is…they will be impressed.
Reviewing, neuroplasticity means your brain can grow! When you train your brain, the pathways grow.

I will use the analogy of walking on a tightrope as the first time you try something and each additional time you practice it is an additional rope to walk on until you have a bridge where you are steady and comfortable with the skill.
Here is a song (to the tune of Shut up and Dance with Me) to help us remember about neuroplasticity.

Students, your assignment for this week is to review the neuroplasticity powerpoint, click on all the Youtubes, and complete the below worksheet. If you have some licorice at home that is the peel and pull type, you can use strands of it to represent your learning, or if you do not have licorice, you can substitute by using string, yarn, or twine strands instead to represent your learning. Have fun!
