Students, Please complete this Personal Safety Address/Phone number worksheet, which is a great way to review the safety rules with your parents and also review or learn your safety information. The Internet can be a wonderful place to learn, shop, play games, and talk to your friends. Unfortunately, there are also predators, identity thieves, and others online who may try to harm you. In order to be safe online, it's important for you to be aware of the dangers. Many kids are confident that they know how to be safe online. However, there are a few reasons kids are often more at risk. They may not always think about the consequences of their actions, which can cause them to share too much information about themselves. Kids also are sometimes specifically targeted by cyberbullies or predators. If you're a parent or guardian, you can help to keep your kids safe by talking to them about their Internet use, teaching them about online dangers, and learning everything you can about the Internet so you can make informed decisions. Students, Please read the powerpoint and watch the Internet Safety videos.

Today we are learning about Brain Basics. Please click on the powerpoint link. Here is the PPT link (Click once under PPT to find link and click again to get to PowerPoint) Then, click on start slideshow. In the “olden days”, people thought that however you were born is how smart you would always be. If you were born not good at math, you’d never be good at math. And now we know that’s not true. Now we know that if you train your brain you can better at any skill. If you practice, you will improve. This is called growth mindset. Here is a fancy word repeat it after me: Neuroplasticity. What does it mean? That your brain can grow! When you train your brain, the pathways grow. If you tell your parents or anyone at home that you know what neuroplasticity is…they will be impressed. Reviewing, neuroplasticity means your brain can grow! When you train your brain, the pathways grow. A video explaining Neuroplasticity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELpfYCZa87g I will use the analogy of walking on a tightrope as the first time you try something and each additional time you practice it is an additional rope to walk on until you have a bridge where you are steady and comfortable with the skill. Here is a song (to the tune of Shut up and Dance with Me) to help us remember about neuroplasticity. http://www.viewpure.com/DbOZ3052VnI?start=0&end=0 Students, your assignment for this week is to review the neuroplasticity powerpoint, click on all the Youtubes, and complete the below worksheet. If you have some licorice at home that is the peel and pull type, you can use strands of it to represent your learning, or if you do not have licorice, you can substitute by using string, yarn, or twine strands instead to represent your learning. Have fun! Hello Argyle students and family! We hope you had a great weekend and have gotten into the swing of things these past several weeks. As we go into our fifth week of digital learning, we need to keep thinking about supporting others and demonstrating acts of kindness. One way we can do this is by helping our parents around the house. Are you all keeping your rooms cleaned? Are you helping with the dishes and laundry? Maybe you are even helping mom or dad in the kitchen. Below you will find the counseling lesson for this week and additional resources. Again, if you need me or would like to send feedback, please feel free to email me: [email protected] Assignment for this week: What exactly is kindness? What is it to be kind? Is it being helpful? Being polite? Does it have to be a big act to be more kind? Well, maybe the smallest act is the most powerful. Also being kind to yourself can look like many other things such as:eating healthy, exercising, reading a book, taking a nap, encouraging yourself, and showing yourself grace by not being so hard on yourself when you “mess” up on something. Activity: Pick one activity listed below. 1.) Draw a picture of you being kind to someone else. Write a sentence (or more) describing your picture. 2.) Draw a picture of you being kind to yourself. Write a sentence describing your picture. Students, watch the below videos about kindness. Video: http://www.tubechop.com/watch/10729999 Students and Families,
